Description
Running a Microsoft 365 tenant end to end – deployment and administration, Entra identity and access, threat protection with Defender XDR, and compliance with Purview.
Who it is for: Experienced Microsoft 365 administrators who already hold, or are working towards, a qualifying associate certification.
This exam retires on 30 November 2026. After that date it cannot be taken, and the certification cannot be earned or renewed. Only book this training if you can sit the exam before then. Microsoft lists AB-650, Administer Microsoft 365 and AI services, as the replacement course.
What the exam covers

Deploy and manage a Microsoft 365 tenant 10–15% of the exam
Tenant setup, domains, users and groups, roles and role groups.

Implement and manage Entra identity and access 25–30% of the exam
Hybrid identity, authentication and secure access.

Manage security and threats with Defender XDR 35–40% of the exam
Security reports and alerts, and protection across email, collaboration, endpoints and cloud apps.

Manage compliance with Microsoft Purview 15–20% of the exam
Data classification, sensitivity labels, DLP and retention.

About the exam
- You need a score of 700 or more to pass.
- Microsoft offers a free practice assessment and an exam sandbox for most exams – use both before you book.
- The exam fee is not included. It is paid to Microsoft when you book.
- Associate and Expert certifications are valid for a year. You renew them free of charge with an online assessment on Microsoft Learn.
