What the exam covers
Weightings are Microsoft’s. Microsoft updates the skills outline on 21 October 2026 – minor changes to the detail; the areas and weightings below stay the same.

Design solutions aligned with best practice and priorities 20–25% of the exam
Resilience strategies against ransomware – business-critical assets, BCDR, secure backup and privileged access – and designs aligned with the Microsoft Cybersecurity Reference Architectures and the Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark, including for AI.

Design security operations, identity and compliance 25–30% of the exam
Security operations capability, identity and privileged access strategy, and governance, risk and regulatory compliance.

Design security for infrastructure 25–30% of the exam
Security posture management and protection for hybrid and multicloud infrastructure, endpoints, servers and platform services.

Design security for applications and data 20–25% of the exam
Securing applications, data and AI workloads, including Microsoft 365.

About the exam
- You need a score of 700 or more to pass.
- Microsoft offers a free practice assessment and an exam sandbox for most exams – use both before you book.
- The exam fee is not included. It is paid to Microsoft when you book.
- Associate and Expert certifications are valid for a year. You renew them free of charge with an online assessment on Microsoft Learn.
